LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers found a new way to extend their winning streak to 10 games, scoring five runs on four wild pitches to go along with two more homers from rookie sensation Cody Bellinger in rallying past the Colorado Rockies 12-6 Sunday. The Dodgers’ string is their longest since they won 10 straight in August 2013. Colorado lost its season-worst fifth in a row. Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino (1-2) threw four wild pitches in the late innings, all of them scoring at least one run. Kenley Jansen got five outs for his 17th save, and hit an RBI double for the Dodgers’ final run. Jansen also walked his first batter of the season after striking out 51 in a dominant year. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clayton Kershaw threw six innings and Joc Pederson kept the streaking Dodgers’ power surge alive with a home run in a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, Los Angeles’ ninth consecutive win. The Dodgers have won 15 of their last 16 games and are the first National League team to reach the 50-win mark (50-26).Pederson’s solo home run in the third was his sixth of the year and pushed the Dodgers’ streak to 16 consecutive games with at least one home run. It’s the first time the Dodgers have reached that mark since 1960. Kershaw (11-2) pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning then retired the next 13 Rockies. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out eight. The Dodgers have won his last 10 starts. Tyler Chatwood (6-8) had control issues all night, walking eight in just 3 1/3 innings. Two walks came with the bases loaded in the third to force in runs, including one to Kershaw on four pitches. The Rockies lost their fourth ..

LOS ANGELES — For now, Corey Seager will avoid a trip to the disabled list. An MRI of Seager’s right hamstring on Saturday revealed he had suffered only a grade I strain, a positive development for the Dodgers’ star shortstop who was pulled from a 6-1 victory over Colorado the previous day after experiencing tightness. Manager Dave Roberts estimated Saturday that Seager might miss 3-4 days, a timetable that would allow him to return to the lineup at some point next week. Roberts noted the club would remain cautious before ushering his return, aware of the risk of Seager re-aggravating his hamstring. “We talked about the short view, but the long view,” Roberts said. “With Corey, to put him in harms way, to potentially have him miss more than he needs to would be irresponsible. We’re definitely mindful of that.” Seager exited during the bottom of the second inning Friday night, leaving with a trainer for the clubhouse almost immediately after he scored from second base on a single b..

LOS ANGELES — The pitchers have been fine these days. It’s not like they have to be. They are pretty much a trigger mechanism. Get everything started, sit back and let the Dodgers’ hitters make it rain. Alex Wood was the starter Friday night against Colorado, which was leading the Dodgers by 2½ games on June 9. He couldn’t pull the trigger immediately. Charlie Blackmon took him through an eight-pitch at-bat and dumped a single into center-field, and Wood wasn’t getting much leeway from home umpire Fieldin Culbreth. After that, defending NL batting champ David LeMahieu walked on four pitches. That’s two on, nobody out, with Nolan Arenado walking up. Arenado has led the league in home runs and RBI in each of the past two seasons. “You don’t have much time to think about it,” Wood said. “You’ve got to start executing pitches.” Arenado dribbled a changeup to first baseman Cody Bellinger, and the wind shifted. Wood struck out Mark Reynolds and Ian Desmond. A chance had fluttered past th..
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Yasiel Puig homered and left-hander Alex Wood kept his record perfect as the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the NL West rival Colorado Rockies 6-1 on Friday night for their eighth consecutive victory. The Dodgers have won 14 of their last 15 games. They have scored at least six runs in seven consecutive games. Wood (8-0) allowed one run in six innings. He gave up only three hits and walked two, retiring his last 10 batters. Wood struck out seven and lowered his ERA to 1.86. The Dodgers have homered in 15 consecutive games, tied for fourth-longest streak in club history. The last time they managed it was in 1977. Their record is 24 consecutive games with a home run. Rookie left-hander Kyle Freeman (8-4) allowed five runs and a career-high 10 hits and three walks in six innings. The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first when Corey Seager singled, took second on an errant pick-off attempt by Freeland and scored on Cody Bellinger’s sacrifice fly. The Rockies..

LOS ANGELES — Grant Dayton, the Dodgers’ lefty reliever, got a nice harmless popup the other night from the Mets’ Michael Conforto. Or so he thought. He turned and watched the ball refuse to descend, like so many in 2017. For a second, Dayton was beginning to wonder if gravity itself had been hacked. The ball relented and fell to Chris Taylor, but all pitchers know that all the skies are unfriendly. Going into Friday night, teams were averaging 1.28 home runs per game, a significant spike over 1.15 in 2016. That was third-most in baseball history, behind 1.17 in 2000, when the game was besotted with performance enhancers. You don’t hear the same whispers this year, primarily because players look normal, also because there is a drug-testing program that everyone wants to think is working. But maybe those drugs weren’t the total culprit in Barry Bonds’ day either. “We’ve been talking to the Pirates and the Brewers, their pitching coaches,” said Mets manager Terry Collins. “The seams..
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Left-hander Julio Urias, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top prospect, needs shoulder surgery and will miss the rest of the season. The 20-year-old is scheduled to have his left anterior capsule repaired Tuesday by Dodgers head physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Los Angeles president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Urias is expected to be sidelined for 12-to-14 months. The injury is typically associated with wear and tear, and Friedman said the Dodgers could not find an example of another pitching sustaining that type of injury at such a young age. “It’s not as serious as I think it sounded to me on the front end,” Friedman said Friday. “It was an acute injury, which means it happened on a pitch. So the fact that it’s not wear and tear that happened over years makes the prognosis that much better. Dr. ElAttrache is really confident that we’ll be able to take care of this and get him back to his accustomed level.” Urias signed with the Dodgers as a 16-year-old fr..
Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías will have season-ending surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday. The expected timetable for recovery is 12 to 14 months. An MRI on Urías’ left anterior shoulder capsule Monday titled the decision in favor of surgery, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. The surgery will be performed by team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Urías suffered the injury throwing a pitch in a Triple-A game June 10, after which he was diagnosed with inflammation. Since then, however, Urías had not thrown a baseball. He relocated from Oklahoma City to the Dodgers’ Camelback Ranch facility in Arizona. Urías, 20, graduated from the organization’s top pitching prospect to a member of the starting rotation last year. He posted a 5.40 earned-run average in five starts with the Dodgers to begin the 2017 season, then was optioned to the minors on May 21. In six Triple-A starts, Urías was 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA. Friedman said he “definitely” expected Ur..
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City Councilman Mitch Englander is calling for a thorough investigation into all of the Los Angeles Police Department’s programs involving children, a day after an officer was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old female cadet. “First and foremost, before being a council member, I’m a father,” Englander said. “I have two daughters who have been involved in youth programs their whole lives.” Englander, a reserve police officer, says he is pushing for a very public, very thorough review of all of the LAPD’s youth programs, from how they’re run, who runs them to how they’re paid for and reviewed. “We gotta make sure parents feel safe when they’re sending their kids to these programs, particularly when the men and women are wearing a badge and a uniform,” he said. The council will consider Englander’s motion a day after LAPD Chief Charlie Beck personally arrested one of his own, 31-year-old Robert Cain, on suspicion of having sex with a 15-yea..

Los Angeles president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Urias is expected to be sidelined for 12-to-14 months.
Los Angeles City Councilman Mitchell Englander on Friday called for a probe of the Los Angeles Police Department's cadet program to be widened to other youth programs, after a week of troubling developments involving several cadets and a 77th division police officer. The expanded investigation was requested a day after the arrest of an officer who is suspected of having sex with an underage cadet.
