Can’t Kick The Habit? Blake Griffin May Have Been The Latest Target Of Draymond...

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — It looks like Warriors forward Draymond Green has yet to kick his habit of flailing his legs – and this time the would-be victim may have been Blake Griffin. Green nearly kicked Griffin in the head during Thursday’s loss to the Warriors – and the moment quickly went viral. I don't know if this actually hit Blake, but Draymond… pic.twitter.com/tAzxbMYLEu — Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) February 24, 2017 Draymond, we've talked about this whole kicking thing. pic.twitter.com/91Wp52d8GV — SB Nation NBA (@SBNationNBA) February 24, 2017 Previous victims of Green’s overactive leg movements include Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams, who Green infamously kicked in the groin during the 2016 conference finals, current teammate Kevin Durant, and Cleveland Cavs guard Kyrie Irving, who Green kicked in the chest during Game 1 of last year’s NBA Finals. The move – which was described by league officials as a “unnatural leg extension” has resulted in a..

Warriors Use Monster 3rd Quarter To Drop Clippers

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Stephen Curry scored 17 of his 35 points in a 3-point flurry over the final 3:37 of the third quarter, and the two-time reigning MVP also had seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Warriors used a big second half to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 123-113 on Thursday night. Curry’s four-point play with 30.7 seconds left in the third and buzzer-beating 3 to punctuate the one-sided period propelled Golden State. Curry and Kevin Durant combined for eight of their team’s nine 3-pointers in the third. The Warriors scored 50 points in the quarter after trailing 61-49 at halftime. It was the NBA’s first 50-point quarter since the Lakers had 51 against the Knicks on March 25, 2014. Durant scored 15 of his 25 points in the third and also contributed 15 rebounds and seven assists as the NBA-best Warriors (48-9) began the stretch run with a downright dominant second half. Chris Paul Cleared By Doctors, Could Return Against Warriors

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chris Paul has been cleared by doctors and could be back in the Los Angeles Clippers’ lineup on Thursday at Golden State. Coach Doc Rivers said Wednesday that Paul “looked great” in practice a day earlier and the only remaining hurdle is how comfortable he feels after another practice. “Overall, he was pretty aggressive,” Rivers said of Paul’s first practice in 4 ½ weeks on Tuesday, “but it was clear as practice went on he got more and more aggressive. In the first half, he wouldn’t even play with the starters; by the end of the practice he was back playing with the starters.” Paul has been out since Jan. 16 after tearing a ligament in his left thumb and having surgery two days later. The original timetable was six to eight weeks, so the star point guard could return slightly ahead of schedule. “The thumb is getting better,” said Paul, who reported no pain in his initial practice. “I don’t care how much your train, run and do drills, nothing is like playing.” Pa..

DeRozan, Raptors Overcome Griffin’s Triple-Double

TORONTO (AP) — DeMar DeRozan had 31 points and the Toronto Raptors overcame a triple-double from Blake Griffin to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 118-109 on Monday night. Griffin, who had his fifth career triple-double and first of the season in three quarters, finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. It wasn’t enough to prevent the Clippers from a third straight defeat against the Raptors and their seventh in eight games in Toronto. DeRozan, who had missed seven of Toronto’s last eight games with a sprained ankle, was 11 of 22 from the floor, while Kyle Lowry scored 24 points and Jonas Valanciunas had 21 points and 12 rebounds for his 20th double-double of the season. The Raptors were 3-4 in DeRozan’s absence and won for just the fourth time in their last 12 games. Austin Rivers had 22 points and Marreese Speights added 15 off the bench for the Clippers, who lost for the seventh time in their last nine games.

This Week in Sports: Patriots 2, Redcoats 0

by Brian Bernstein What did we just witness? Was that the greatest Super Bowl collapse of all time? Or was that the greatest come back of all time? With so many records broken tonight, lets just leave it at, “I don’t believe what I just saw,” to quote Jack Buck. Super Bowl LI (51) will go down as one of the greatest championship games of all time, but lets get one thing clear, it wasn’t. It was never a good game. For three quarters the game was dominated by one team, and then the last 19-minutes the other team took control. The Atlanta Falcons entered the fourth up 28-9 in a game that seemed out of reach for any comeback. Then came the ridiculous catch by Falcons star wide receiver Julio Jones along the sideline that everyone assumed was setting up for the final nail in the coffin. Deep in New England territory the Falcons reached back with their hammer, held the nail steady, swung, and WHAM, hammered their thumb instead. The 2016 NFL MVP, Falcons QB Matt Ryan, was sacked and the e..

Clippers Lose As Boston Gives Pierce An Emotional Farwell

BOSTON (AP) — Isaiah Thomas bumped into Paul Pierce tooling around Boston on Saturday night and then stole the spotlight from the former Celtics captain on Sunday. With the crowd uncertain whether to cheer loudest for the Celtics or for Pierce — or for the Patriots in the Super Bowl — Thomas scored 28 points to lead Boston to its seventh straight victory, a 107-102 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in Pierce’s final game in the Garden. Thomas backed off Pierce in the final seconds, with the game out of reach, to let the 2008 NBA Finals MVP sink one more basket on the parquet floor he called home for 15 seasons. “I wanted him to shoot and make it,” Thomas said. “That would have been the perfect way to go out. He did it the right way.” Playing his last game in Boston, and making his first appearance for the Clippers since New Year’s Eve, Pierce started and played the first five minutes before heading to the bench. Although the crowd chanted his name in the final minutes — egged on by..

Warriors Beat Clippers, 133-120, For Ninth Straight Victory Over LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stephen Curry scored 29 points despite making just three 3-pointers, Kevin Durant added 26 points and 10 assists, and the Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 133-120 for their fifth straight victory on Thursday night. Blake Griffin had 31 points, making 11 of 13 free throws, for the Clippers. They have lost nine in a row to their Bay Area opponents, the franchise’s longest active skid against a single team. The rematch wasn’t the debacle that occurred last weekend when the Clippers lost by 46 points at Golden State. But they still never led and trailed by 21. The Clippers got beat in every category despite Griffin’s hard-charging effort. The Warriors were dominant in the paint, on second-chance points and fast break points. Golden State has won 11 of its last 12. The Clippers got within seven on a 3-pointer by Jamal Crawford with 1:55 remaining in the game. But Durant answered with a 3-pointer and Klay Thompson added another. The Clippers’ d..

Griffin, Clippers Rebound With Easy Win Over Suns

PHOENIX (AP) — Blake Griffin scored 29 points and the Los Angeles Clippers bounced back from a humiliating 46-point loss at Golden State to beat the Phoenix Suns 124-114 on Wednesday night. The victory over the team with the worst record in the West left Los Angeles 2-4 since Chris Paul went down with a torn left thumb ligament. Raymond Felton added 18 points and J.J. Redick 16 for the Clippers. Los Angeles never trailed, but Phoenix cut the lead to two four times and was down by just one at 94-93 with 10:26 to play. Eric Bledsoe scored 41 to tie the career high he set two games ago, but Phoenix lost its fifth in a row. Devin Booker added 20 points, his 14th straight game scoring at least 20. Warriors Crush Clippers Behind Curry’s 43

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — When Kevin Durant arrived in Golden State this season, Stephen Curry made an extra effort early in the season to make sure his new teammate got his shots. Warriors coach Steve Kerr wanted Curry to know how important it was for him to be aggressive as well. With his first halfcourt buzzer-beater of the season followed by a dazzling quarter, Curry looked just like the player who won the MVP the past two years. Curry scored 25 of his 43 points in the third quarter following his long-range shot to end of the first half, leading the Warriors to their ninth win in 10 games, 144-98 over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night. “I have to be aggressive,” Curry said. “That’s the thing about us. We do have a lot of talent. There’s a balancing act with it.” Curry had too often deferred early in the season but has been looking for his shot more of late. He had nine 3-pointers against the Clippers on a night that began with his playing status in doubt because of a sor..

Report: Clippers, Knicks Talk Trade For Carmelo That Wouldn’t Blow Up LA’s ‘Big 3’

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly discussing a potential trade for the Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony that would not involve any of the team’s superstar core of Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan. A source cited by the New York Daily News says the Knicks would consider trading Anthony, who would reportedly waive his no-trade clause if the right deal were to come along. Any Clippers deal would have to free up about $27 million in salary, and would reportedly include a combination of J.J. Redick, Jamal Crawford, or Austin Rivers. Knicks president Phil Jackson is hoping to land a deal – and a destination – that Anthony would agree to prior to the NBA trade deadline next month, according to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. Anthony, who has a home in L.A., is a close friend of Paul’s and would complete a formidable Clippers’ “Big Four” to rival the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.
