This Week in Sports: Home Sweet Home Field Advantage

by Brian Bernstein NFL Football: at Houston 27, Oakland 14: The 2017 NFL playoffs kicked off where it will all end, in Houston. The Raiders made the type of NFL history you don’t want to make. Connor Cook became the first ever quarterback to make his first career start in a playoff game. I mean you have to feel a little bad for the silver and black. They were a serious Super Bowl contenders had it not been for a broken leg. But such is sports and Houston’s defensive line made Cook’s first start one to forget. The score makes the game seem a little closer than it actually was. The Texans controlled the game with the leagues best defense and they got the performance from QB Brock Osweiler they had been hoping for when they signed him to his absurd $72-million contract. Houston will board a plane and fly to New England next week to take on the heavy favorites, the Patriots. at Seattle 26, Detroit 6: The playoffs have not been kind to Detroit, especially road games. 2017 NBA New Year’s Resolutions – Western Conference

By Rahul Lal So many New Year’s resolutions go unfulfilled every year. And often it’s because people set the bar too high. NBA teams, even in the West, also have some room for improvement. And to see results, those goals can be modest. Here are what should be the 2017 New Year’s resolution for each team in the Western Conference. Dallas Mavericks: Give Dirk His Kobe Season It’s not secret that Dirk has struggled to stay on the court even though he’s been effective. Nowitzki seems about ready to join the retirement club with Kobe, KG and Tim Duncan. It’s imperative to let him have his moment in the sun to cap off his historic career. Denver Nuggets: Get Rid Of Unnecessary Players On Roster The Denver Nuggets have the second lowest payroll in the NBA and are loaded with young talent on friendly contracts. It’s time to cut or trade the extra fat on larger contracts, because the Nuggets have a chance to develop these young players who will undoubtedly demand large contracts one day. ..

2017 NBA New Year’s Resolutions – Eastern Conference

By Rahul Lal So many of us set New Year’s resolutions every year as a way to better ourselves or become more successful in some way. Maybe I didn’t go to the gym as often as I set out to, but the intention was there. And, frankly, I’m already in pretty good shape. (Stop judging… I can feel you judging.) NBA teams, like people, always have some room for improvement, no matter how good they already are. In the spirit of giving this holiday season, I offer my advice to the Eastern Conference. If they follow these resolutions, their (post-salary cap jump) fortunes are sure to soar. Atlanta Hawks: Establish An Identity The Hawks look like an offensively dangerous team some nights, a defensive unit other nights and some weird mash-up of the two occasionally. Regardless, they have to establish an identity moving forward, and that begins by allowing Dennis Schroder and Kent Bazemore to run at a fast pace alongside Paul Millsap. Boston Celtics: Don’t Act Like A Surprise Team Anymore The C..

5 Bold NBA Predictions For 2017

By Rahul Lal What if I told you back in 2015 that the 2016 NBA Dunk Contest would be as exciting as watching MJ and Dominique go at it in back in 1988? Would it have sounded crazy to say that the Warriors would go on to win 73 regular season games and then add Kevin Durant in the offseason after a messy divorce in OKC? What if I proposed that in between shooting commercials about “bringing one back for the land,” LeBron James actually found a way to do it? All that and more happened in 2016 and, quite frankly, left us dumbfounded. There’s probably an NBA Nostradamus out there who figured all this out, but I’m not him… yet. Here are some of my 2017 NBA predictions, so next year I can take full credit. 1. Golden State Warriors Finish 70-12 Add in Kevin Durant and you have an instantly better team, right? Well, not so fast. These Warriors are truly special, and there’s no arguing that. But the bench that separated the Warriors in years past lost a host of key players ranging from big ..
